Well, I said that Matt Moore would run the table against the Jays tonight, and I was wrong. Mind you, I said it because the last 3 years he’s started out cold and heated steadily as the season progressed, including starting with a 7+ era in the minors and going on to lead the minors in strikeouts for 2 of those 3 years. He’s the real deal and he’s so young. The Rays have locked him down and will reap the production he yields for several years to come. I thought, considering how weak the Jays’ lineup is right now, he’d mow. But, credit the Jays with making adjustments. The Jays squad has a lot of heart and got some production from unlikely sources (Sadly, I’m looking at you Kelly Johnson). It was a big win for the Jays but a bigger loss for the Rays since they’re trying like all heck to get their teeth into some Yankee behind. The Jays have a chance to play Spoilers for a lot of teams down the stretch and that can be just as bonding (let’s ham-string those Effers!) as a chance at a championship. It’s not ideal, but it’s something, and when you’re thinking forward to the next year, you take all the opportunities to play as a unit that you can get.
