Colby and Anthony sure don’t look like they’re competing with each other for a job in the Bigs in these shots. That’s probably because they aren’t… Gose, despite playing the hell out of center this spring, is heading to AAA. And he should be because he has a 30% K rate to work on (RA Dickey’s was half that last year, as a hitter, FYI). But, at such a young age, Gose hase already made huge strides, and built on them this spring. There is no doubt in my mind he’s the center-fielder of the future. Whether that’s with the Jays or with someone else is up to Rasmus. Rasmus ceiling is starting to solidify and Gose’s is still unknown. This season is big for both of them.
Personally, I think Rasmus will be just fine, but even at his best, I don’t he can be the kind of out fielder or base runner Gose can be. The separator, for now, is power. Because as soon as Gose learns how to handle the bat, his steals, OPS, range, and arm are all superior.
And I think Gose knows it. He does not lack confidence or swagger…
It’s not that Rasmus is that bad. Not at all. It’s just that Gose is that good. I’d like to see Ramsus put it all together because you see it there in him, in fits and starts—and he’s been through a lot. But at some point every player starts to hear footsteps behind them and Gose’s feet are swift.
I wish them both well as a battle between two amazing talents means damn good baseball.
