I don't think it's incorrect. Yes, a minor injury might only get the wheels greased, while a major one would open up a free pass, but the way it's written doesn't say a 15day dl stint would open the doors for free.

Does seem incongruous that there no place for Negrych on the Jays' roster but given the number of bodies the Jays have at second it is no surprise.

However . . . one does have to wonder, given the fact Izturis can manage at short (after the injury to Reyes), that Negrych was not called up when Reyes went down. Instead, the organization brought up Kawasaki who has done a commendable job filling in. But, in retrospect, agreed, does seem the better move at the time would have been to bring up Negrych, slide Izturis to short, and have DeRosa and Bonifacio around to fill in/act as back up until Reyes returns.

Even now . . . what is stopping the organization from swapping Kawasaki for Negrych today?

As for Negrych sitting around today hoping Melky's EMI does show sufficient damage to warrant putting him on the DL . . . would not be surprised if everyone on every AAA team is, without malice, hoping for his counterpart in the Bigs is disposed, at least for sufficient time for the understudy to impress.

"Calling up Negrych means the Jays have to shuffle their 40 man roster. That’s why Cabrera getting hurt is a sinful prayer. Cabrera’s injury means the Jays get a free space. No injury means the Jays have to make space, burning an option, or possibly passing a player through waivers."

The above is incorrect. Negrych is not currently on the 40-man roster. Even if Melky is put on the 15-day DL, the Jays would still need to clear space on their 40-man roster in order to call Negrych up (i.e. putting a player on the 15-day DL only creates room on the 25-man roster, not the 40-man roster). This would mean that in order to call him up, the Jays would have to remove someone currently on the 40-man roster and possibly losing that player to waivers.

One might think that since the Jays have seen some players blossom somewhat later than conventional wisdom might indicate (Bautista, Encarnacion), they might be more open to the possibility of it happening again.

What I have not seen to date is an explanation for what happened last season to Ricky . . . how does it just evaporate like that? Yes, Jays are open to criticism for the way they handled the situation last summer, winter, and this spring . . . but would be good to know what incident or whatever caused Ricky to lose his confidence as abruptly as he did.

As for his next outing . . . true, Jays are obliged to trot him out once more but I doubt there are many who believe Ricky has turned any corner.

The look on Ricky's face as he sat on the bench last night was telling, I believe. If his expression was anything to go by, he hasn't a clue what to do now.

Painful to watch.

I applaud you for writing this, and my question is who is accountable. Someone needs to answer for this. It is NOT Rickys fault. So who takes the blame for this?

This team hasn't been run properly for years.

I totally agree with this article. Dude just lasted for 0.1 inning! How bad was that to his mental self.I know it's early to give up for the Jays right now given that we saw a glimpse of their depth these past few days (I hope you do an article about that)To sum it up, I agree also that Ricky is done in Toronto and it's not his fault though. As a Jays fan, It hurts to see a starting pitcher played only for a third of an inning. I hope that Jays management would be wise regarding on Ricky. (Maybe he can't record even a single out on his next outing especially with all the pressure killing himself and his pitching)
